Introduction

Stockwell is one of London's oldest surviving skateparks and arguably its most culturally significant. Built in 1978 by Lorne Edwards — who also built the UK's first skatepark in Portland, Dorset — it sits behind Brixton Academy on Stockwell Road.

The park is an organic, free-flowing concrete landscape unlike any standardised modern park. Renovated by Betongpark in 2023/24, restoring its iconic red surface.
